Spicy Food

This is why I like to put spice in my foods… Spicy

Ha ha.. not sure if that really does work, but I love spicy food. When I was in college, I learned how to prepare a few Indian dishes. Some are so easy to make and have a lot of protein in them. I will post one of my favorites soon. I will just have to find a suitable substitute for rice. I heard rice is not so band friendly. Have any of you had issues with rice? I will need to find out how I can still eat Sushi!!

First post, the waiting game.

Welcome to my blog! I was debating about creating one at all, but then miss Lap Band Gal (who I have been blog stalking for months) gave me that final push to actually do it. Should be fun. So here is the story. I have started my pre lap band insurance requirements in February. Just 2 more months of meeting with my doctor before my surgeon can submit everything to my insurance. I have already had my psych eval, meeting with the dietitian, consult with the surgeon, and oh yes.. I have the Bandwagon Cookery cook book. I have been practicing a lot of banster rules to see if I could even do it, and to my surprise, I feel very comfortable with the changes that I will be taking on.
My story is the same as a lot of bandsters out there. I have been overweight since about 10 years old, I have no idea what it is like to shop in regular stores (other than picking out cool outfits for my man), and I have tried everything under the sun to lose weight. Starting with my mom as a teenager doing diets like beets, tuna, and grapefruit, WW, Susan Powter, Atkins, Nutrisystem, Slim Fast, HCG... But the story continues with losses, and more gains. The weird thing is that I am very active. I showed horses for 10 years until I was 19, I did marching band, volleyball, softball, and water aerobics almost every day during college. After college I hopped on a cruise ship where I was on my feet 12 hours a day for months at a time, still no luck in keeping pounds off. Of course, the amazing food that our chefs would make didn't help either. But hey.. Crab is healthy right :)
Now I have settled into the real world of desk work (I love my job though), in a place where if we are lucky, we get 2 months of nice weather, then the darkness takes over. Now don't get me wrong, I love Alaska, but you definitely have to make an effort to get out of the house in winter. Luckily, I have a very supportive boyfriend who loves volleyball as much as I do. I just wish I could jump as high as he can. Maybe when I lose this extra 120lbs I will.
My biggest fear is that my insurance will find some reason to deny me this chance. This is my waiting game. Stay tuned!
